The hunt is now on for the 1997 British Airways Tourism for Tomorrow winner and
entries are wanted from countries all around the world. The Awards are open to
any organisation in the travel and tourism industry and are designed to reward
companies for their efforts to run their businesses without neglecting the local
environment or heritage. Finalists will be flown to London for an awards
ceremony next spring and feature on national UK television.
They will also
benefit from publicity through the British Airways worldwide communications
network. Entries are split into five regional categories: United Kingdom Europe
Americas (North, South and Central America and the Caribbean) Pacific Southern
region (Africa, Middle East and Indian subcontinent)
Past winners include a
tourist village near Petra in Jordan, a whale watching scheme in New Zealand and
a Himalayan conservation project. Chairman of the British Airways Tourism for
Tomorrow judges, David Bellamy said: "Good tourism is going on all over the
world. The British Airways Tourism for Tomorrow Awards are a chance to tell
everyone about the efforts of your company and country"
