Rosemarie Ford announes the best of Business in London East

The winners of LETEC's Blue Ribbon Awards 1996 were announced by TV personality and actress, Rosemarie Ford, at the Blue Ribbon Awards Ceremony, held at the London Arena in Dockiands on 29 March 1996.

Over 20 finalists from businesses and organisations in the boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Newham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest were amongst the 700 guests who gathered to celebrate thE best of London East business.

The Blue Ribbon Awards lived up to their reputation of stunning the audience with surprises on the night, including the delivery of one of the winner's cheques by a specially trained Harris Hawk, and the world premiei appearance of the Bluebird 9, a British car which will be aiming to break thE world land speed record for an electric car. Bluebird 9 was driven into the Arena by Don Wales, grandson of Sir Malcolm Campbell and nephew of Donald Campbell, both former holders of world speed records.

Other special effects included an Olympic Tribute by girls of the British Amateur Gymnastics Association who performed a Ribbon Exercise - one of the disciplines of the Olympic sport of Rhythmic Gymnastics.
